Too much of a good thing?

Do you ask yourself if you can eat as much as you want if it is healthy? Well, yes and no. It all depends on where we are with our health, what "healthy" looks like to you, the time of day and the ingredients that may be disguised as healthy, and even the healthy ingredients.

Some hidden sugars exist in many "healthy" foods that are packaged foods. So we always want to be careful and diligent to read labels on everything we buy, regardless if it is for us to consume or not. It creates a healthy habit and everyone wins who will eat the food we buy.

Some things to look out for that are incognito are maltodextrin (actually is a version of sugar - stay away from), cane sugar - it again is just sugar so can mess with our immune systems, elevate blood sugar levels and wreak havok on our metabolism to name a few.

Even eating as many bananas as you like, even though considered healthy by most, will create an imbalance of sugar load on the system and could be damaging to the delicate balance within the body. This load of sugar, even though natural, creates a situation that the body will secrete a hormone called cortisol as a fight or flight response to deal with an overload of sugar. When the body cannot remove this over-abundance of sugar, it will quickly convert it to fat and store it for a rainy day, no matter how much fat we already have stored.

So what I do is to listen to my body. I eat slowly when I can. My body then has the time to catch up to what it needs. Another way to track is to keep a food journal and not only document the food, also document your mood, how you feel and your level of hunger.

Sometimes it is effective just to be extremely aware of what we are putting into our bodies.

Until next time, live with enhanced health and awareness of what makes you feel energized and alive!

Just One Chip, Cookie, Bite? Be real!

Ever try to have just one taste, one bite, one chip or one cookie? As soon as we do, we are doomed and we know it before we even go there, right?

So, what is the solution as we all know we actually do not want to even go there but something is pulling us there. It could be Grandma who is ever so convincing and laying on the guilt of how she slaved over the stove or worse, made them with all the love she has for us - OH MY goodness, how can we resist that? Even when we know it will make us feel YUCK not only from what they are made from with all the normally white sugar, white flour, white salt and other fortified, chemical and bleached ingredients and hormone injected dairy and eggs, but the GUILT we feel because we could not just have 1!

You know 1 would be actually not so bad for us. Not good, but not so bad. Our bodies are made to handle toxicity and you have to admit that they do a mighty fabulous job at handling all the toxicity we throw into and at it on a daily basis, week after week, month after month and year after year. Our bodies are amazing! Thank GOD for this temple and absolute magical body that heals itself, that rejuvenates even if we do not provide it with the best.

Now, back to what to do.

So imagine a scenario and role play this with a friend who gets it OK, not someone who is not of like mindset and will poo poo this entire thing. THIS WORKS. Imagine your most difficult to resist situation, like your absolute favorite food that you know is toxic to your system - meaning it makes you feel bad, gives your symptoms of toxicity and is just not good for you to have, especially in excess. Now, imagine your most irresistible person offering that food to you right now in the most convincing and special way. And you say something like this: "....name of person...I so appreciate/adore/love that you did, made, bought, are giving this to/for me. And I thank you so very much. BUT, I no longer eat this as part of my chosen lifestyle and even though your gift/(or by name of what it is like- cookies)has brought me so much pleasure and I know how much love/effort/thoughtfulness, etc you put into making/doing this for me, it will support my health goals/mission/promise to myself, if it would be OK with you if I shared this/these with someone who could also appreciate your thoughtfulness, without me eating them. Would this be OK with you as it would support me and I know your intention is to really show me you care/love me/are thinking of me?

Is it difficult? When you make it difficult it is. When you practice it, it becomes effortless and the other person feels appreciated, heard and loved because you received their gift, and understood their meaning of gifting it to you regardless if you eat it. They just want to be heard, felt and appreciated for their gifting to you.

I hope this supports your goals to include only the healthiest supportive energy rich foods in your body.

Email me if you have any questions. I am happy to share my own "temptations" and stories if you request.

Live with enhanced health,

11 1/2 Years Now Vegan and Living Younger

You know exactly the moment when you have a transformational event occur in your life right? I don't remember too many exact moments in my life but the ones I do, are life transforming. The most transformation that has occured for me was when I decided at a Tony Robbins UPW event on February 28, 1997 to become a vegan. DONE! No second thought about it. Looking back now, I can't remember it even being the slightest bit difficult even. I am sure it must have been? Hmm. I can't recall any difficulties with the transition.

I might ponder why? Well, because I had decided. To decide is to cut off any possibility of anything else and so it was and so it is today. I have to admit that only once in my life have I willingly had any dairy since then and it was 4 years later in Capri, Italy in the most amazing environment outside of a gelato store. My friend Jeff coaxed me and I mean HARD to get a gelato and I said I thought there was dairy in it. He said he did not think so and so I asked. The lady spoke little English so did not know how to answer me. I had a sense but did not really know for sure that there was dairy in it but it looked like it. So, against my better judgement, I had a tiny cone like the size a bit bigger than a large thimble - really that small! I took I think about less than a half a dozen licks and no fib, within minutes, my nose starting running like a fawcett. I threw the rest away as I knew right away I was immediately cleansing what was not supposed to be in my body. It was amazing. I could have been upset; I was uncomfortable the rest of the night mind you, but I was so pleased to have had the experience and backing for what I had been doing to rid my body of toxins. I was so proud of having "fallen off the wagon" as you may say so that I could realize and appreciate even more what great health I was in.

So, do not feel guilt or blame yourself for getting off track or doing something once in a while that you know or may not even really know is less than healthy for you. It is always a learning experience and it teaches us to be so much more grateful for where we have come and how we are living today.

Namaste,

Kimberly
